Iyengar Yoga Studies

New! With Nina Pileggi and Tonya Garreaud

March – May 2023

Are you ready to take your yoga study to the next level?  Ready to steep your asana practice in a new understanding of yoga philosophy, pranayama and the beauty of chanting?  Whether we practice for better health or as a means of self-care, it’s only through regular devoted practice that we can experience the deepest purpose of yoga—self-transformation. For this to happen, we need a desire to connect with all the aspects of yoga. Pursuing this with a group of other committed students and two experienced teachers attuned to growth at all levels will support your yoga practice so it can reach its fullest potential.

We’ll meet one weekend each month: Friday evening and Saturday morning and afternoon. Our time together will include asana and pranayama classes, discussion of sequencing, anatomy and physiology, study of yoga philosophy, and chanting.

Open to students with at least one year of Iyengar Yoga. All participants are expected to establish a regular home practice. Resources to help you structure and nurture your practice will be provided.

For those interested in teaching, preparing to become a CIYT, or established teachers committed to honing their teaching skills, the optional Teacher Development component meets on Sundays of our scheduled weekends. We will work on demonstration of asana, developing observation skills and offering corrections to students. Poses to study and teach to the group are assigned beforehand with time for feedback and questions.

Iyengar Yoga Mexico Retreat April 22-29 2023

Enjoy a full week of yoga and friendship at a quiet resort on Mexico’s warm Pacific Coast. Located approximately 90-minutes from Puerto Vallarta, Mar de Jade is situated between the tropical jungle mountainside and the blue-green ocean of the Chacala beach. The natural beauty, fresh ocean air, and the comfortable accommodations inspire quiet reflection—it’s a perfect place to retreat from everyday life and practice yoga together.

Join senior teachers Tonya Garreaud and Nina Pileggi for this seven-day yoga retreat. Each morning begins with an active two-hour class that is appropriate for all levels, followed by a delicious breakfast. There is time each day for optional excursions—visit the Altavista petroglyphs, the local Mexican market, nearby villages and beach towns, or simply relax on the beach at Mar de Jade. In the late afternoon, a restorative and pranayama practice will leave you refreshed after the activities of the day. Enjoy a week of good company and healthy food; rejuvenate your practice in the fresh ocean air.

Tonya’s clear instructions and methodical sequencing help students move beyond their perceived limitations. She is known for her keen observation and willingness to help students with specific needs. Her classes are challenging and rewarding; taught with friendliness and warmth. She has a deep interest in yoga philosophy and Sanskrit and shares these aspects of yoga with her students as a means of developing a greater awareness of the Self.

Nina Pileggi is a Level 3 Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructor. Having taught Iyengar Yoga for over 20 years, Nina’s teaching style is enthusiastic, supportive and direct. She finds that yoga’s benefits are many and far beyond just the physical. She believes yoga can increase energy and bring us a wonderful sense of well-being that helps us heal from life’s stresses. Nina loves and values the idea of studentship – that one should always be learning. Iyengar Yoga has given her an avenue to continuously learn and evolve through studentship.

Mar de Jade was created in 1983 in the spirit of active community service, gratitude for the natural environment, and cultivation of human life. To that end, it has founded numerous community projects, including regeneration of the land via non-toxic farming methods on a 19-acre organic farm, and an after-school program for local children in Las Varas, a nearby farming village. It is far more than a vacation destination; it is a community we love to return to year after year.

Yoga for Downhill Skiers

I am excited to once again work with Treelinereview for a new story. This article is Yoga for Downhill Skiers! I used to be an avid downhill skier. Now I mostly cross-country ski, but wanted to offer my ideas of how yoga can help prepare you for the ski season.
